Rasen BHS

Rasen BHS

SOLD to Cyndy Pope of Penn Valley, CA. Rasen couldn’t have lucked out more than to be heading to the home that every horse dreams of. Lots of turnout, a pony buddy, an owner who is a lovely rider but also dabbles in bodywork, and the promise of lots of trail rides is as close to horsey Heaven as I can imagine. Congratulations to Cyndy and I hope to see lots of pictures “through the ears” as you two explore!!

2007 Holsteiner Gelding (Roller Coaster/Cassini II/Lavaletto/Accord), 16.2h. Barn name is “Rasen,” though we often call him “the hairy Raisin” 🙂

Rasen (pronounced Rah-zen, which means “speed” in German, though ironically also means “grass patio,” which seems to be a much more appropriate definition given his proclivity towards lazing in the sun and eating as much grass as he can) is a beautifully conformed pony-type horse with a big body, pretty dishy head, and beautiful neck. He has a good jump and huge step. Squarely fixated in the middle of being a push ride and a whoa ride, he is the type that “anybody can ride” and carried a kid around the hunter ring (3′ and 3’3″) on the East Coast with top ribbons during the 2016 show season. He has also been trail ridden extensively as well as fox hunted on the East Coast.

Rasen has a phenomenal temperament and brain. He wants to do right by his rider and will jump every time from any distance whether he has good rider input, no rider input, or bad rider input. My daughter jumped him around frequently when she was 8 years old and peanut-sized and still enjoys jumping him as much at age 10. He is truly as safe as a horse can be, but uniquely he’s not a deadhead. Often times dullness is conflated with a sane and predictable horse. Rasen has a little pep in his step, but with his neck right in the rider’s lap, he locks you in and makes you feel protected and confident. His lessee in 2018 was looking for a confidence builder and he served that role beautifully.

This horse is an absolute joy to ride and puts a smile on the face of his rider every time he’s taken out of the stall. He’s a phenomenal medal/equitation/jumper horse with the smooth jump and the style to take someone back East.  He’s a good 3-ring type, meaning that he can hold his own in the hunters (though not a hunter specialist and not the hack winner), would be absolutely fantastic in the medal/eq ring (and jumps open water along with any other jump type you put in front of him), and could also be a mount to take a kid up through the Junior/AO Jumper classes.

Mid-5 figures.

Rasen doing what he’s always done best – carrying another junior to a boatload of wins on the East Coast.
